KEDM鈥檚 instrument drive a 鈥渞esounding success鈥

During this past summer, KEDM-FM, a public radio station housed at 蜜桔直播, spearheaded a regional drive to collect gently-used musical instruments and equipment to aid musicians affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Many other participating radio stations were able to hand their donations to the Tipitina鈥檚 Foundation in New Orleans. KEDM needed a truck.

KEDM Development Director Susan Allain developed a hugely successful fundraising drive that netted 16 instruments and various equipment pieces, including a turntable, amps, speakers, and a violin case.

Adrienne LaFrance, KEDM development assistant, used her own vehicle to bring the much-needed instruments to the non-profit organization working to rebuild the music community there.
鈥淚t was a resounding success,鈥 LaFrance said. 鈥淲e had a wonderful response from the community. We hope the instruments help the victims of Hurricane Katrina. They鈥檒l certainly do more good there than collecting dust in a closet.鈥

KEDM partnered with Matt鈥檚 Music, Enoch鈥檚 Pub and Grill, and two regional chambers of commerce and an arts center in the communities of Bastrop, Winnsboro and Ruston.
