Music performances to feature Gwyneth Walker compositions March 5 鈥� 8

Music lovers will have multiple opportunities March 5 鈥� 8 to enjoy the works of Gwyneth Walker, composer-in-residence at the University of Louisiana at Monroe.

Deborah Chandler will direct the 蜜桔直播 Chamber Singers Monday, March 5 at 7:30 p.m. in the Emy-Lou Biedenharn Recital Hall. The chosen Walker selections include: 鈥淚 Thank You God,鈥� 鈥淭his Train,鈥� 鈥淲hite Horses,鈥� 鈥淟ove by the Water,鈥� 鈥淚 Will Be Earth,鈥� and 鈥淎 Kingdom of Bliss.鈥�

蜜桔直播 musical talent will perform Walker鈥檚 compositions in a chamber recital Tuesday, March 6 at 7:30 p.m. at the Emy-Lou Biedenharn Recital Hall.

Chris Thompson, violin; Mark McCleery, cello; and Richard Seiler, piano, will exhibit 鈥淎 Vision of Hills鈥擯iano Trio.鈥�

The Chamber Arts Brass Quintet will deliver 鈥淭he Flying Trapeze.鈥� Susan Olson, mezzo-soprano, will perform 鈥淣o Ordinary Woman,鈥� and Deborah McClung-Guillory will play 鈥淩hythm from The North Country鈥� for piano.

Sandra Lunte and Seiler will deliver 鈥淪onata for Flute and Piano鈥� and Scot Humes, clarinet, will join the duo for the premier of 鈥淟ike the First Bird--Sonata for Flute, Clarinet and Piano.鈥� Humes will continue with 鈥淏uffalo Gals and Other Songs,鈥� including: 鈥淏uffalo Gals,鈥� 鈥淛ohnny Has Gone for a Soldier,鈥� and 鈥淔rankie and Johnnie.鈥�

Myron Turner will direct the 蜜桔直播 Orchestra in more of Walker鈥檚 compositions, Wednesday, March 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the Emy-Lou Biedenharn Recital Hall.

The orchestra鈥檚 program will feature David Gibson in 鈥淐oncerto for Bassoon featuring David Gibson.鈥� Also, Walker鈥檚 鈥漇ymphony of Grace鈥� and 鈥淐oncert Suite鈥� for symphony orchestra will be included.

A recital will showcase 蜜桔直播 students performing Walker鈥檚 music Thursday, March 8 at 11 a.m. in the Emy-Lou Biedenharn Recital Hall.

鈥淭rio for Two Flutes and Clarinet,鈥� 鈥淭heme and Variation,鈥� and 鈥淩aise the Roof鈥� with the Galliard Brass Quintet will highlight this program.

As part of the Faculty Artist Concert Series, a recital featuring Marilynn Gibson, trumpet, and David Gibson, bassoon, will be held March 8 at 7:30 p.m. in the Emy-Lou Biedenharn Recital Hall.

The premiere performance of 鈥淐lose Encounters for Bassoon and Trumpet,鈥� written by Walker for the Gibsons will include: 鈥淔irst Encounter,鈥� 鈥淟eisurely Encounter,鈥� 鈥淪ynchronized Encounter,鈥� and 鈥淔amiliar Encounter (a Dance).鈥�

鈥淐ircus Days and Nights,鈥� 鈥淎 Play with Music for Trumpet, Bassoon, Piano, Narrator and Actors/Dancers,鈥� based on the poetry of Robert Lax, will also be premiered on the recital. Walker will comment on the structure and intent of the composition.

Mark Clark is serving as music director, with Louis Nabors as narrator and Robin Stephens providing choreography. Along with the Gibsons, Sonia Hsu is the pianist.
