蜜桔直播鈥檚 Division of VAPA features series of concerts in November
The University of Louisiana at Monroe鈥檚 Visual and Performing Arts division will offer several performances in November for music lovers of all stripes.
Friday, Nov. 5 - A low brass concert will be offered at 7:30 p.m. in the Emy-Lou Biedenharn Recital Hall. It will feature 10 student soloists as well as the 蜜桔直播 Trombone Ensemble and the 蜜桔直播 Tuba-Euphonium Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Micah Everett, assistant professor of music.
Notable works will include 鈥淔anfare for Paratroopers鈥� by Paul Creston, 鈥淎 Hymn for the Lost and the Living鈥� by Eric Ewazen and 鈥淭he Concerto for Bass Tuba and Orchestra鈥� by Vaughan Williams.
Admission is free and open to the public.
On Saturday Nov. 6, 蜜桔直播鈥檚 Wind Ensemble, conducted by Dr. Derle R. Long, will present a concert at 7:30 p.m. in Brown Auditorium.
The program includes 鈥淭he Sinfonians March鈥� by James Clifton Williams, 鈥淛ericho Rhapsody鈥� by Morton Gould, 鈥淣itro鈥� by Monroe native Frank Ticheli, 鈥淥n An American Spiritual鈥� by David Holsinger, 鈥淭he Witch and the Saint鈥� by Steven Reinecke and 鈥淲ashington Post March鈥� by John Philip Sousa.
Guest conductors will include Dr. Michael Spears, former band director at West Monroe High School and Thomas Ruby, a current graduate student in music education at 蜜桔直播.
Admission is free and open to the public.
Tuesday Nov. 17 - The 蜜桔直播 Jazz Ensemble presents one of the most popular and exciting concerts given each semester at 蜜桔直播 at 7:30 p.m. in Brown Auditorium. The 19-piece big band performs high energy jazz, Latin-jazz, funk and swing music.
蜜桔直播 music faculty member Larry Anderson directs the 蜜桔直播 Jazz Ensemble. The concert will feature special guest artist Daniel Sumner, guitar, and student vocalist Elizabeth Boston Bennett.
Works such as "Louisiana Hot Sauce," "Orange Colored Sky," "Thou Swell," "Unstuck in Funk," "Gentle Rain" and many others will be performed.
Admission is free and open to the public.
Monday, Nov. 23 - The 蜜桔直播 Percussion Ensemble will present a concert at 7:30 p.m. in Brown Auditorium.
The ensemble will perform popular pieces such as "Kpatsa" by the African Ensemble, "Comedian's Gallop" and "The Bee's Melody" by the Steel Band, "Ku-Ka-Ilimoku," "Triplets," and 鈥淩ecycled.鈥�
Dr. Mel Mobley and Michael Holdiness, graduate assistant, will contribute.
The concert will feature members of the 蜜桔直播 Dance Department on an African piece. The ensemble will capture the audience鈥檚 imagination through a wide variety of percussion instruments and styles.
