Students show Warhawk pride during first session of PREP
Monica Zeno of Bossier City, a senior education major at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, had every reason to be beam proudly at the end of her first session as staff leader during the annual Preview Registration and Enrollment Program, or PREP, as it is called.
She and co-leader, Collin Stagg, a pre-pharmacy major from Zachary, headed Group Nine, described by Zeno as 鈥渢he best group in the whole wide world,鈥 during the annual spirit competition held in Scott Plaza on Thursday.
鈥淐ollin and I were just listening to the radio one night when we got the idea,鈥 said Zeno, about their catchy chant that referenced 蜜桔直播鈥檚 historical legacy. 鈥淲e mainly knew we wanted to show others we really were the best group there.鈥
PREP, a two-day orientation program held each week in June, introduces incoming freshman to the academic, social and cultural aspects of 蜜桔直播.
Each year, the students divide into groups based on choice of major or college and then compete in a battle of school spirit to promote a strong sense of Warhawk dedication and pride.
鈥淚t was really fun,鈥 said enthusiastic freshman Jordan Rountree, an elementary education major from Walker, near Baton Rouge. 鈥淢onica is very competitive and I鈥檓 very competitive. It wasn鈥檛 an option not to win!鈥
Rountree explained that education majors have to be energetic to keep students motivated 鈥 no doubt a helpful component in securing the group its winning title on Thursday, in spite of rising temperatures and humidity levels.
Under the guidance of PREP staff, new students adjust to college life as they become familiar with the requirements and expectations of the university and with student services and campus resources.
Zeno and other PREP staff like her are selected annually based on leadership, academic achievement and enthusiasm for the university.
Asked about her advice for Rountree and other new students making their way to 蜜桔直播?
鈥淕et involved 鈥 but more importantly 鈥 manage your time wisely so you get your work done,鈥 she said.
There are still dates available to register for PREP in June. Students may call the PREP Hotline toll free at 1-800-372-5127 or locally at 318-342-7315. Students may also visit to register.
