Ace鈥檚 Amazing Race: Building a Warhawk nation, one freshman at a time
Freshman orientation classes at the University of Louisiana at Monroe participated in the third annual Ace鈥檚 Amazing Race, Aug. 30 鈥 Sept. 1.
Ace鈥檚 Amazing Race is based on CBS鈥檚 鈥淭he Amazing Race鈥 and is designed to familiarize incoming freshman with the campus and build school spirit. Coordinator of First Year Experience Mary Sewell says the race 鈥済ets better and better鈥 every year.
鈥淚 see how much fun the students have and how it truly does build community and allow students to feel at home at 蜜桔直播,鈥 she said.
Thirteen sections of University 1001 participated in the race with uniquely chosen names such as the 鈥淗awkanators,鈥 鈥淭riple Aces鈥 and 鈥淎ce鈥檚 in the Hole.鈥
Peer Leaders Maggie Warren and Ahmaad Solmone said the race is, 鈥渁 good ice-breaker for the new students. They get to know each other and it builds up a Warhawk Nation.鈥
The 鈥淭op Aces鈥 took the title of winning group Wednesday evening, following the week鈥檚 final activity. The students began in the 蜜桔直播 Grove where Peer Leaders found golden eggs with clues inside. The clues led each group around campus to places such as the Student Union Building, Fant-Ewing Coliseum, Clarke M. Williams Student Success Center, University Park and Bayou Park.
Freshman Dan Street had only positive things to say about his experience.
鈥淚t was a lot of fun,鈥 Street said. 鈥淚 got to meet a lot of new people and make new friends.鈥
