School safety to be discussed at next KEDM "Policy and a Pint" Feb. 5
At 5 p.m., on Tuesday, Feb. 5, KEDM Public Radio will host 鈥淧olicy and a Pint鈥� at Bacco Italian Grille in Washington Plaza in Monroe.
The public is encouraged to participate with questions and comments on plans to improve campus security and keep children safe in the aftermath of the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. The forum is free and all are welcome to attend.
KEDM News Director Bob Lenox will moderate a panel of experts including Ouachita Parish School Superintendent Dr. Bob Webber, City of Monroe Emergency Preparedness Coordinator Lt. Doug Tarver, and University of Louisiana at Monroe Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice Dr. Robert Hanser.
These leaders will provide details on current procedures, precautions, and new proposals to ensure protection.
鈥淚mproving school safety is at the forefront of so many conversations,鈥� says Lenox.
鈥淲e hope to give parents, teachers, and concerned citizens a chance to find out more about local and state initiatives on safety in our school districts."
The 鈥淧olicy and a Pint鈥� series is designed to provide access to experts on community issues in an informal atmosphere.
The first event, held in October, discussed plans by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to remove trees along the Ouachita River.
KEDM Public Radio鈥攍ocated at 250 Stubbs Hall on the University of Louisiana at Monroe campus鈥攊s a community partner dedicated to improving the quality of life in the listening area.
